On Saturday, September 21, the children at Youth Villages were able to make fall leaves bookmarks, play ‘fall’ charades, participate in ‘Things of Fall’ bingo, plus have a story time before the cake and ice cream to celebrate three children’s birthdays! It was a very full day! Usually the counselors collect the children’s goody bag at the end of the party and the children have set times to get treats out of their bags. One boy who turned 8 asked permission if he could hold onto the birthday card, instead of it going into his bag. That revealed once again how important the birthday cards are to the children! His card had a watercolor painting of a turtle on the front made by one of the middle schoolers from North River Church of Christ in Marietta, Georgia. The middle schooler had added jokes on the inside plus all the signatures and notes from our Birthday Heroes made it a true prized possession which he will read over and over and over. Thank you to the Birthday Heroes who made this a special day for the children!
